This evenings service is a traditional Eucharist (Holy Communion). The word Eucharist means ‘thanksgiving’ and that’s very much the flavour of the evening. The calm before the storm of Good Friday.
Following the service the altars are stripped of their hangings and the decoration in the church is removed in preparation for Good Friday, The empty sanctuary leads us into the watch in the garden of Gethsemane where Jesus, accompanied by his disciples, faced the terrible prospect of death by crucifixion, and was, ultimately, arrested.
