About St. Clement'sLocationThe town of Urmston and the parish of St Clement share the same boundaries. The township is an attractive suburb of Manchester lying about 6 miles to the south west of the city centre, and approximately 4 miles from Old Trafford cricket ground and from Manchester United's football stadium. It is also close to the Trafford Centre and the new "Chillfactor" ski slope. It is well served by public transport and is close to the M60 and Motorway links to the M61, M62, M56 and M6. The town centre of Urmston has a market three days a week and a shopping centre which is in the process of redevelopment at the moment. The town developed with the advent of the railway and Manchester ship canal which link the two cities of Manchester and Liverpool an enabled the industrial development of Trafford Park and Salford docks bringing rapid growth and employment to the area. HousingThe parish has a population of around 11,500. About 72% of homes are owner occupied the remainder are rented through Private, Council or Housing Association tenancies. A significant number of larger properties have been converted into bed-sit accommodation or into nursing and residential homes. There are also three large sheltered housing complexes and one of privately owned apartments for older residents. SchoolsWithin the parish boundaries there are two County Primary Schools and one Grammar School. The church has good links with the schools and has representation on the Governing body of one of the Primary schools. WorshipOur style of worship is quite formal with crucifer, acolytes and vestments at the main morning service. Once a month a less formal eucharist is celebrated at which the children and youth take a more prominent role. Statistics
